“In the Piancó valley, backland of Paraíba State, Brazil, grows red rice. A variety more resistant than the white rice that can survive in hot, dry climate. After the soybeans, cotton and corn, Brazil may have also transgenic rice, a threat that endangers the health of consumers and the health of the environment. If CTNBio – the government body responsible for the release of GMOs – approve Bayer GM rice, the red rice may disappear, hitting Paraíba rural communities, the traditional cuisine, and the biodiversity.” Photo: GREENPEACE/Lunae Parracho
